Credit to Auburn for doing what it took to win but
We gave them no challenges whatsoever.
We came out stretching the field and scored quickly. They adjusted and started pressuring Fromm thanks to our very weak pass protection. What did we do to respond? We committed to constantly pounding their solid brick wall middle with our RBs and occasionally trying the deep pass again. Pretty much that was the plan we stuck with all night. Very little was done to make them pay for continually rushing our backfield. Things we've done all season long like quick slants, screens, TE hitches, any sort of hot route, read option keeper or quick hand off? We didn't do them. At least not enough to punish a pass rush. Also, we tested the outside very little. Wisely, Auburn chose to rinse and repeat. While the D had their own brain-farts, when they did hold, we rewarded them with short breaks as the offense shrugged for a pittance of yards on a few downs and stumbled off the field. Or we missed a FG. Or fumbled a punt. Or lept for a penalty. Defense eventually gave up too and Auburn surged from a UGA-manageable 16-7 lead to a blowout. We have struggled with our O line all year but we've managed the weakness decently with a great rushing attack and quick pass plays. Tonight, mistakes and offensive play calling reared their ugly head and helped the losing cause in a major way.
